How to use it
Press Someone gets on — or just tap the bus — and one child appears in the next seat. It is built to run alongside a real bus made of chairs or cardboard: a child climbs aboard in the room, and the same thing happens on the screen.
There is no score, no timer and no wrong answer. Nobody is racing anybody.
- Count them rings each child in turn and says the number, finishing on the total — the last number you say is how many there are.
- Into the tunnel drives the bus out of sight. The question stops being how many you can see and becomes how many there are — the step most worth practising once counting is secure. Ask the class, then bring it out to check.
- Hide the number keeps everyone in view but covers the numeral, for when you want them counting rather than reading. While it is hidden the bus stays quiet, so nothing gives the answer away.
- Setup also swaps what you are counting — children on a bus, ducks on a pond or biscuits on a plate. The maths is identical; pick whichever a class will sit still for.
- Setup switches between 5 and 10 places, turns the spoken numbers and the bell on or off, and can show a ten frame beside the number.
- Fullscreen fills the whiteboard — press Esc to come back.
- Away from the board, ↑ adds one, ↓ takes one away, C counts them and T is the tunnel.
