๐ŸŒŸ What is the Gurmat Academy?

The Devanhaar Gurmat Academy (DGA), located at Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Handsworth Wood, Birmingham, is a dedicated space for students to deepen their understanding of Sikhi through Gurbani Santhiya, Sikh history, Gurbani understanding, philosophy and Seva.

The academy offers various opportunities, including trips, activities, Gurmat camps, and mentorship from dedicated Sevadaars. Many students have made significant progress in their Nitnem Santhiya and have gone on to become key Sevadaars.

Parents have noted their children's increased engagement with Sikhi at home, inspiring them to complete Nitnem and take an active role in Seva. Join us in nurturing the next generation of Sikh leaders!

๐Ÿ’› Invest in your child's Sikhi journey

The Gurmat Academy is more than just a place of learning โ€” it is a hub for Sangat, personal growth, and friendships. Our academy fosters an environment where students develop their Sikhi knowledge while also growing in confidence and character.

Through classes, interactive workshops, and mentorship from dedicated Sevadaars, students gain practical life skills, a strong sense of identity, and support from a like-minded community.

Parents have shared how their children have become more engaged with Sikhi at home โ€” feeling inspired to complete Nitnem, ask deeper questions, and take an active role in Seva. With each student's progress, the future of Sikhi is strengthened, ensuring the next generation continues to carry Guru Ji's teachings forward with love and devotion.

๐ŸŒฑ Camps

Camps provide a valuable opportunity for children to connect through sangat, build meaningful and lasting friendships and develop a strong sense of belonging within the Gurdwara community. Carefully structured to cater to different age groups, each camp is designed to be age-appropriate, ensuring that all participants are fully engaged, supported, and able to benefit from the experience.

We are also mindful of the challenges young people face today and ensure that our sessions remain relevant and up to date. This includes exploring contemporary issues such as the impact and potential harms of social media, alongside thoughtful discussions on current issues affecting Punjab and solutions. Through guidance rooted in Sikhi, we aim to equip children with the awareness, resilience and values needed to navigate the modern world with confidence and responsibility.

๐ŸšŒ Trips

Each year, we take the children on a residential trip that offers them a truly enriching and memorable experience. Surrounded by positive sangat and a nurturing Sikhi environment, they are immersed in opportunities for both spiritual and personal growth. Together, they participate in various different types of seva, while also enjoying a range of engaging activities such as team-building exercises, canoeing, archery, interactive workshops and inspiring talks.

It is a joyful and uplifting experience that not only strengthens their confidence and fosters lasting friendships but most importantly deepens their love and connection to Sikhi. In addition, the children have the opportunity to visit other places such as Cliff Lakes, Ninja Warrior, and bowling facilities, further supporting their social development and broadening their experiences in a structured and supervised setting.
